Portlandia mayor Ted Wheeler spent years trying to appease the violent liberals in the city. Over the past 6-months he even blamed the violence on Donald Trump and told him to keep the federal agents out of the city.
With Antifa as emboldened as ever, Wheeler knows they won’t stop so he’s demanding federal resources to help combat them.
What pushed him over the line appears to be the New Years Eve riots that saw the group attack the Multnomah County Justice Center.
Wheeler says he’s had enough, saying at a press conference on New Years day “my good-faith efforts at deescalation have been met with scorn by antifa and anarchists bent on destruction. It's time to push back harder."
He’s demanding that the Democrat controlled state legislature increase criminal penalties for repeat vandalism offenders.
He suggested that those convicted should be required to meet with their victims, to understand how vandalism wrecks the livelihoods of shop owners.
Wheeler told reporters “why would a group of largely white, young and some middle-aged men destroy the livelihoods of others struggling to get by? It's the height of selfishness. There are just some people on this planet who are bent on criminal destruction. There are just some people who want to watch the world burn."
